With great sorrow on my part, I lost K-9 Sari on July 26, 2004.
Sari died from Degenerative Myelopathy which is common in Shepherds
and which has no cure. The spinal cord degenerates from the tail forward.
Sari had worked for 7 years and 10 months doing patrol and narcotics detection.
He had retired in June 2003 and enjoyed the final months of his life at home with
his companions, Storm, a female German Shepherd Dog, and two Maine Coon cats,
Shelby and Toby. We all miss Sari, he was a great dog and the best partner I've had.

and military in your thoughts and prayers!

BORN: March (Pisces, the fish - and it fits, I love the water, especially the ocean).
FAMILY: I grew up in a very happy family consisting of dad, mom, 2 brothers (I'm the youngest) & many pets.
SCHOOL: I attended Catholic grade & high schools, Ohio University, Shippensburg University and Palm Beach Community College.
SCOUTING: I earned the Eagle Scout Award, worked three summers at a local scout camp teaching swimming and lifesaving and I am a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.
MILITARY: Served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army.
MARITAL STATUS: Divorced & currently single.
CHILDREN: One daughter, Carla, who is married and has given me grandchildren Ryan, Brandon, Samuel and twins Christopher and Rachel.

That's my grandfather who was a police officer with the City of Pittsburgh back when they wore the "Keystone Cops" helmets. Yes, that's me in the "Rusty" uniform at my birthday party. Rusty as in "Rin-Tin-Tin" and Rusty, a tv show about a German Shepherd and a boy cared for by an Army troop in the old West. And that's me with some of the dogs. I guess this shows that my love of dogs and desire to be in uniform goes back a long way and ran in the family!

I am a Police Officer with the Ross Township Police Department which borders the north side of Pittsburgh. I was assigned in August 1995 to the K-9 Unit as a Canine Handler. My partner was "Sari", a black and tan male German Shepherd Dog imported from Slovakia. We were dual trained in Patrol work and Narcotics Detection. Sari retired in June 2003 and spent his final months relaxing at our home.

My prior experience includes service as a Police Officer in Fort Lauderdale and Lake Worth, Florida, and as a Law Enforcement Park Ranger with the National Park Service in Shenandoah NP, Virginia, Independence NHP, Pennsylvania and Everglades NP, Florida. Within my city police work, I have had specialty assignments to the Traffic Unit, Aviation Unit, Tactical Response Team, Scuba Dive Team and Detective Division. At my last Park Service assignment, in the northern part of Everglades National Park, I patrolled using airboats and all-terrain vehicles for poachers of alligators, Florida panthers, deer and frogs.

My return to Pittsburgh was due to the death of my father and a desire to be close to help my mother. I question my decision to return to Pennsylvania from Florida every winter... B-R-R-R-R-R-R!!!!!

Music and Sports:

My music mainstay is COUNTRY.
Country music is America's music !

As for sports, you may find me swimming, scuba diving, bicycling, backpacking....do you get the idea that I like the outdoors?!!

I'll be attending the following concerts . . . maybe I'll see you there?!!
